Apple has released the iPhone 14 with a plethora of new features and among these is the new and quirky Dynamic Island. Many users have been enticed by this new feature that aims to show real-time updates from various apps without taking away your attention.
Sadly only a few iPhones are compatible with this new feature and here’s all you need to know about it.
What is Apple’s Dynamic Island feature and which iPhones have it?
Dynamic Island is a new feature in iOS 16 that allows your notch to dynamically interact with apps and display real-time updates. It acts like a mini way to view your notification updates and is currently only available with iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
Dynamic Island as the name suggests dynamically interacts with the new smaller notch on the Pro models. To be precise, the notch is 30% smaller compared to iPhone 14 and other previous models which allows the OS to use the extra space to its advantage and display the contents of Dynamic Island depending on the live activities currently active on your device.
This smaller notch, currently, is an exclusive feature only for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
Why iPhone 13, 12, 11 and older iPhones will not get Dynamic Island feature?
That’s simple. The iPhone 13 series, 12 series, 11 series, and the older iPhones, and even the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, lack the proper hardware that Apple installed in the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to provide the Dynamic Island feature. The feature also seems to rely on the new A16 Bionic chip which is also exclusive to the Pro models.
Which apps can take advantage of Dynamic Island?
Most stock apps can currently take advantage of Dynamic Island including Face-time, Music, Maps, Wallet, Clock, and more. Dynamic Island also allows you to interact with the displayed information by tapping and swiping on it.
