What to know
- Gemini Live is currently available on select Android devices.
- Access requires a Gemini Advanced subscription and Android version 10 and up.
- Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Fold Pro owners get free access for the first year.
Google’s advanced voice assistant, Gemini Live, is now available for Android users. This AI-powered assistant offers more natural conversations and enhanced capabilities compared to its predecessor, Google Assistant. However, availability is currently limited.
Currently, Gemini Live is accessible only to Gemini Advanced subscribers using Android phones. This means users need to have both a compatible Android device and a paid Gemini Advanced subscription to utilize the new voice assistant.
There’s good news for Pixel 9 owners. These users receive access to the Google One AI Premium Plan, which includes Gemini Advanced, at no additional cost for the first year. This effectively gives Pixel 9 (including other Pixel 9 model) users free access to Gemini Live during that period.
Requirements
- A compatible Android device (running Android 10 and up).
- Gemini Advanced subscription (part of Google One AI Premium Plan).
- Google app set as the default digital assistant.
While specific device compatibility details are limited, it’s clear that Google is rolling out Gemini Live gradually. Users of newer Android phones, especially those in the Pixel line, are getting access first. We’re also seeing a wider rollout on Pixels and other Android devices as well. Make sure to update the Gemini app and get Gemini Live. Once updated, look for an icon that looks like a waveform to the bottom right corner of Gemini.
Gemini Live is also expanding to include a total of 10 different voices that you can choose from. These include – Nova, Ursa, Vega, Pegasus, Orbit, Lyra, Orion, Dipper, Eclipse, and Capella.
Expect broader device compatibility, including rollout for iOS, and multiple language support, in the near future. For now, Android users interested in trying out this advanced AI assistant should check if their device is compatible and consider subscribing to Gemini Advanced for access.
