In Where Winds Meet, the Touch of Death is a ninja-type stealth skill that lets you sneak up on low-level enemies and kill them with a touch. Acquiring it requires completing the Echoes of Old Battles side quest and solving several puzzles in an underground dungeon.

Touch of Death Location

The quest begins near the ruined fortress close to Battlecrest Slope in the Verdant Wilds.

Quick guide to getting the Touch of Death skill

Step 1

Speak with the NPC eavesdropping outside the gate to start the Echoes of Old Battles side quest. After defeating the enemies, including a mini-boss named Zhang Bao, find a map that guides lighting specific braziers in the fortress to open a secret entrance.

Step 2: Light correct braziers

Light four specified braziers:

  • Near where Zhang Bao was defeated.
  • On the roof opposite the main entrance.
  • On a connecting turret.
  • On the ramparts right of the entrance.

Turn off any other braziers to trigger a spiral staircase opening.

Step 3: Learn the Oath of Vow pose

Go underground and interact with the chest and a statue to learn the "Oath of Vow" pose.

Step 4: Spin the statute and solve wall block puzzle

Use the pose to spin the statue in the room to unlock the next door.

Using the Touch of Death skill

Once unlocked, Touch of Death is a passive Mystic Art skill. To execute it, crouch behind an enemy by pressing down L3 and then, when close, press R2 to perform an instant kill. This is excellent for bypassing stronger foes or avoiding detection during exploration.
