There's quite a bit of confusion surrounding multiple characters in Where Winds Meet. Is it possible to control more than one character, can you create new characters, and what workarounds are there for those who don't get the option to add multiple characters? We clarify.

Can you control multiple characters in Where Winds Meet?

No - The game lets you control only one character. This is to ensure narrative continuity and upgradation for the same character. There is no additional controllable character.

If you want to control another character, you will need to create another account or delete the one your current character and make another one.

How to unbind your account (on Steam) and create a new character

This method isn't to make a separate character, but is a workaround for if you want to make a new character from scratch by without creating a new Steam account. Here's how:

  • Go to Settings > Other > Bind account (skip if you've already linked to your NetEase account).
  • Next to NetEase Games, click on Link.
  • In the browser tab, create a new throwaway NetEase account (that is not your primary one).
  • Make sure the account is linked.
  • Now that the NetEase account is linked, let's unbind the Steam account.
  • Return to the Other tab, click on V (Customer Service).
  • Select Unbind Account.
  • Select your Steam account. Type Confirm (with a capital C).
  • Your Steam account will now be unlinked.
  • Restart the game. You can now create a new character easily.

After unbinding, the Steam login is considered new, which lets you create a new character.

Version 1.4 Patch (Simplified Chinese version) lets you create multiple accounts

After the rollout of v1.4 Patch in the Simplified Chinese version of the game, you can create multiple accounts in the game - each account can create its own character.

Users on the CN servers can even create up to six characters per account, although they won't be able to share their cosmetics and items between characters. However, this is not a global feature. For those outside China, the restrictions of one character per account still apply.
