After beating Hades 2’s main story, one of the last major goals is waking Hypnos—an elusive quest tied to a chain of incantations. Soot, the rarest required material, is locked behind post-credits content, but it’s possible to secure it by following the late-game quest path and talking to key characters.

Requirements for unlocking the End to Dumbest Slumber quest

To start, a series of steps must be completed before Soot is even attainable:

  • Talk to Hypnos in the Crossroads and gift him at least two Nectar.
  • Collect and grow Poppy seeds to get Poppy flowers for the incantation.
  • Talk to Medea in Ephyra on the surface to advance the incantation progression.

How to get Soot after finishing the story

To obtain Soot, proceed as follows:

Step 1

Complete the main storyline and ensure you see the credits at least once. Soot cannot be found or earned until this milestone is reached.

Step 2

Begin new Underworld runs post-game. Proceed through the regions until reaching Tartarus, where you’ll find Hades (and sometimes Persephone), usually in his chamber before the final boss.

Step 3

Approach Hades and speak with him. Gift him a bottle of Nectar during this post-credits encounter.

Step 4

After gifting Nectar, Hades rewards you with Soot (sometimes called House Soot) and a Keepsake item.

Step 5

Return to the Crossroads, combine Soot, 2 Poppy, and 1 Shaderot in the incantation, and use a Dream Vapor item on Hypnos. This will finally wake him and resolve the “Soundest of Sleepers” prophecy, granting two Nightmares as a reward.
