What to know

  • The quest unlocks during the Walk in the Park main mission.
  • Start it by talking to Kitt inside Originium Science Park’s Underground Area (before a branching hallway).
  • Progress involves clearing a blockage, navigating laser grids, and collecting/retrieving multiple research data files.
  • Completion rewards include T-Creds, Protoprism, Oroberyl, Arms INSP Kit, and Operational EXP.

After reaching Originium Science Park in Chapter 1, Dusty Old Files is one of the easiest-to-miss exploration missions because its start point is inside the underground facility rather than in the open park area.

Where to find the Dusty Old Files quest (Kitt location)

Kitt is inside Originium Science Park, in the Underground Area accessed from a large circular building southwest of the Research Center.
After entering the building and reaching the Underground Area, Kitt stands in the large room just before the hallway branches, near one of the displayed rock formations.

How to complete Dusty Old Files mission

The mission path stays inside the underground facility and repeatedly routes through rooms with laser grids, tables holding research data, and repair-logic interactions that gate progress.

Step 1: Start the mission from Kitt

Find Kitt in the Underground Area’s large room (before the branching hallway) and speak with him to begin the mission.

Step 2: Remove the first obstacle and pass the first laser grid

Proceed deeper into the facility and destroy the glowing red orb that removes the obstacle blocking the route.
After the obstacle clears, jump through the small laser grid to reach the next area.

Step 3: Collect the first research data (table in the large room)

In the next large room, approach the second table on the left side to locate the first research data.
Complete the associated repair logic interaction as prompted, then read the research data to register it for the quest.

Step 4: Collect the second research data (right-side room)

Continue forward to a section with multiple laser grids, then turn right into the adjacent room.
Approach the table on the right to find the second research data, complete the repair logic interaction, then read the data to progress.

Step 5: Collect the last research data (north hallway and left room)

Head north through the hallway that contains a laser grid, then quickly move into the left room to avoid getting hit.
The last research data is on a table in that room; interact with it and read it to complete the data collection portion.

Step 6: Reach Harper and resolve the dialogue

Exit north, use a box to jump over the laser grid, then enter the control room on the right side where Harper is located.
After speaking with Harper, a recommended option is giving him data related to his research to resolve the situation positively and secure cooperation.

Step 7: Exit to finish and submit automatically

Leave Harper’s room, follow the path to the right, and use the switch to open the door that leads back outside.
Upon exiting, Kitt contacts via the Baker and the research data is submitted automatically, completing the mission.

Key interaction notes that commonly get missed

Inside Harper’s room, an optional but recommended interaction is the glowing yellow circuitry in the center of the room, described as an Originium Circuitry Component Style used later for a repair logic puzzle tied to the quest Repair Story.
This is not required to complete Dusty Old Files itself, but picking it up prevents having to return later.

Finishing Dusty Old Files efficiently

The fastest clear is to start from Kitt in the Underground Area, follow the laser-grid route to read all three research data entries, speak to Harper, then exit via the switch-triggered door for the automatic submission.
