Vivo and OnePlus are both owned by BBK Electronics and in fact, the two companies’ flagship phones over the recent past have had quite some striking resemblance. This is true even for the latest Vivo X21 UD and OnePlus 6, two phones that borrow notes from each other – or should we say the latter borrows notes from the former, if their launch dates are anything to go by.

As of this writing, the Vivo X21 UD has just entered the Indian market, a little over a week since OnePlus 6 started selling in the same market. Despite having the same parent, everything changes when each one leaves the comfort of their homes, where it’s business as usual. The latest introduction of Vivo X21 UD in India is meant to destabilize the good start to life for OnePlus 6 and the company is obviously banking on its industry-first in-display fingerprint scanning technology to do the trick.

As noted earlier, the two phones have some similarities, especially on the design aspect. You are getting a device that is nearly full screen, but the notch is present at the top end. Unlike the OnePlus 6, though, there’s no fingerprint scanner on the back and the dual-lens camera system takes after Apple’s iPhone X setup, where it features on the left-hand side and not in the middle like its counterpart.

Vivo X21 UD price and availability

Vivo X21 UD

Looking at the specs above, there’s no doubt that the Vivo X21 UD packs some punch. However, when it comes to value for money, you’d be better off spending your money elsewhere. At INR 35,990, the only major reason you can have for buying the X21 UD is the chance to be the first to rock a device with an in-display fingerprint scanner. We say this because OnePlus 6 costs INR 34,999 and mostly shares the same design language, but it’s miles ahead on the inside. The Nokia 7 Plus, which rocks the same processing specs as the Vivo X21 UD but misses out on the futuristic fingerprint scanner and the bigger AMOLED panel, costs INR 25,999. And did we mention that the UD still rocks the aging microUSB port? Well, there you go!

You can purchase the Vivo X21 UD on the company’s E-Store and Flipkart right away. Although the phone was launched in two flavors of Black and Ruby Red back in March 2018, only the former is up for grabs. As for the latter, there’s no mention of when it will start selling in India.
