Verizon recently pushed out OTA updates for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with September security patches for Android. The new OTA update comes with G930VVRS4APH1 for the Verizon Galaxy S7 and G935VVRS4APH1 for Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge.

While it’s good to have the latest Android security patches installed on your phones, but if you care about root access, then we’d advise you against installing the PH1 OTA update to your Verizon S7 and S7 Edge.

While you cannot root PH1 update on Verizon S7 and S7 Edge, you cannot even downgrade back to the previous Verizon firmware. Meaning, if you update to PH1 then you’ll be forever locked out of root unless a root exploit is discovered for the newer firmware.

Currently there’s no root safe way either to update the devices to PH1 without losing root access. But we’ll be sure to update this as soon as we come to know of a solution to get root on PH1 firmware build. Stay tuned..

Happy Androiding!
