A new listing at the Geekbench reveals what looks like a Verizon model of Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy Note 7. Tagged with model no. SM-N930V, the device is powered by Snapdragon 820 SoC, the same processor chip that powers Samsung’s own Galaxy S7 (in US only), and is also housed in OnePlus 3, Zuk Z1, HTC 10, Xperia Z Performance, and many other flagships.
The listing speaks of msm8996 chipset, with 1.59GHz 4-core processor with ID ‘ARM implementer 81 architecture 8 variant 1 part 517 revision 2’, which is exactly same as that of OnePlus 3.
From the looks of it, it looks like a Note 7 test unit for Verizon Wireless in US, powered by a SD820 processor with which Samsung is fairly well acquainted with, till the new chips like SD821 and SD823 make it to the market.
Otherwise, it could be totally another scenario, where it looks like regular Galaxy Note 7 would sport a similar spec-sheet as that of Galaxy S7, while the Galaxy Note 7 edge (SM-N935X) could be sporting latest processor and 6GB RAM.
Earlier benchmark leak (image right above) of the Note 7, model no. SM-N935F, had processor labeled as universal8893, an improvement over Galaxy S7’s universal8890 chip, which is far more pleasing to know about than SD820 chip on SM-N930V.
Surprisingly enough, though, the regular Note 7 was also leaked earlier, model no. SM-N930F, and it sported rather old-gen processor, universal7420 — FYI, that’s what runs the game in Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. See the image right below.
It’s easy to figure out that processor mention in the listing means little at this stage, but there is a trend that could be spotted: the regular Note 7 (SM-N930x) are running a sub-par processor than edge variant of Note 7 (SM-N935x). This surely has us thinking about two variants of the device, while all rumors till date point to only one Note 7, the edge variant.
What do you think? Are we in for regular and edge Note 7 sets?
