What to know:
- Valve has announced a limited edition white Steam Deck OLED launching on November 18, 2024 at 3 PM PST for $679.
- The device features a white and grey color scheme with the same specs as the 1TB OLED model, plus an exclusive white carrying case and microfiber cloth.
- Once stock sells out, Valve confirms it won’t be restocked, and purchases are limited to one per Steam account with purchases made before November 2024.
Valve is adding a fresh coat of paint to its popular handheld gaming device with the announcement of the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White. The new variant sports a sleek white and grey design that sets it apart from the standard black model.
The limited edition device maintains identical specifications to the existing 1TB OLED Steam Deck but comes with exclusive white accessories, including a premium carrying case and microfiber cleaning cloth. At $679, it costs $30 more than the standard OLED model.
Unlike last year’s translucent model which had limited regional availability, Valve will release the white edition globally in all regions where Steam Deck currently ships, including the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea.
To ensure fair distribution, Valve has set aside proportional stock for each region. Customers must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024 and have an account in good standing to be eligible to purchase. The company is enforcing a strict limit of one unit per account as announced.
As per Eurogamer, Valve views this release as their second experiment with alternative colorways, following positive response to last year’s translucent edition. The company will use customer response to this white edition to inform decisions about potential future color variants.
The gaming giant continues to support the Steam Deck platform through regular software updates while simultaneously working on future hardware developments. However, Valve emphasizes that once the limited edition white units sell out, they won’t be restocked.
