Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S II android phone — the outfits flagship phone for Year 2011 — just hit the FCC gates, as can be identified from the above pics. It’s not the most important thing though, which, in fact, is that looks set to launch with AT&T — as the mention of 850 MHz and 1900 MHz GSM frequencies in the image above suggests. Nothing else of much importance is here to tell you about, but we’re sure it would come equipped with dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi capabilities too, along with the Samsung made Super AMOLED Plus display and dual-core processor, Exynos — that might or might not beat the nVidia’s dual core tegra 2 chip.
AT&T already has one great — I guess, the best — android phone, the Motorola Atrix 4G which boasts of very impressive spec-sheet, including the nVidia Dual Core processor and 1GB RAM, Webtop (dock), etc. But, Galaxy S2 surely looks one notch above Atrix because of the presence of Super AMOLED Plus display, which I think will easily beats the Atrix’s much touted qHD display. Software-wise, by the time Galaxy S2 hits the streets with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), I think Motorola wouldn’t have hard time updating the Atrix to Android 2.3. So, major difference between the phones remains of screen, looks and not to forget, the thickness, where Galaxy S II is again a winner with its 8.5 mm thin body. But hey, Atrix is no slouch at just 10.1 mm!
So, the thing is AT&T might get the very two best android phones available if it gets S II, which is incredible from the carrier, which was very much criticized for the lack of availability of high-end android phone with it, if you look back last year.
We know about Optimus 2X on T-Mobile, but aren’t so much impressed with LG’s work on 2X — world’s first dual-core processor phone — featuring the nVidia’s Tegra 2 chip (same you saw in Atrix). Plus, both Galaxy S II and Atrix 4G score above the 2X in design, no doubt.
So, I think the best android phone will remain with AT&T until the superior-than-Galaxy S II phone arrives, which we can’t imagine to happen in next 5-6 months, at least. Oh, we haven’t forgot about that impressively designed SE Xperia Arc, which stills tops the list when it comes to sheer looks, but sadly, it pales way too much specs-wise when placed side by side with dual-core processor phones.
