Step 1 - Reach Matsumae Clan Gatehouse

Step 2 - Assisting Jubei in the Ruined Village
You’ll find Jubei in a ruined village, coordinating with his forces. Mount up and advance. Use Horse Charge to smash through enemy lines when possible, then dismount to fight.
Step 3 - Gunners on the Cliff
Progress until you reach a cliff where shield-bearing gunners block the path. Use cover, pick them off with a bow or use Scorch Bombs. After defeating reinforcements, squeeze through a gap in the wall to enter the main area.
Step 4 - Choosing Approach to the Gate
At nighttime, you’ll have a choice: charge straight in or sneak with Oyuki.
If you choose stealth:
- Move along a cart near the wall
- Use tall grass to sneak past patrols
- Climb the cliff
- Eliminate enemies below
- Sneak through a broken wall
- Head to scaffolding and cross toward the gate
If you choose direct assault, you’ll also end up at the same spot near the gate.
Step 5 - Using the Tanegashima Rifle
Jubei will distract enemies while you provide cover with the Tanegashima rifle. You’ll spot a hostage (a young girl). The key is to shoot at gunpowder barrels, causing an explosion that frees Jubei and the girl. If you fail, Jubei may die and force a restart. After the explosion, Oyuki leaps in. Clear the remaining enemies and proceed to the cutscene.
Step 6 - Family Reveal & Transition
The rescued girl runs to Jubei, calling him “father” — she is Kiku, Atsu’s niece. Open the gate, climb stairs, and you’ll get your first view of Oshima Coast & Matsumae Castle. Near the end, Oyuki gives you a dialogue choice (doesn’t change the outcome). The quest ends by scouting key locations: Matsumae Castle and Benten Port. Also, Oyuki mentions a gunsmith, Matchlock Murata. The next mission is Echoes of the Storm.
