Getting the guitar in The Forge is a short side quest, but it’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look. The game hides the item behind an illusory wall inside a cave, and the guitar only counts if you officially start the quest first. Here’s the full, step-by-step breakdown.
How to start the Bard’s lost guitar quest
Before searching for the guitar, you need to activate the quest.
You’ll find the Bard NPC sitting near a campfire close to the potion and spawn area at Stonewake’s Cross. Interact with him and accept his request to retrieve his missing guitar.

If you skip this step, the guitar will appear in the world but won’t register when you interact with it.

Where the guitar is located in The Forge
The guitar is hidden inside a nearby cave connected to Stonewake’s Cross. This cave contains NPCs and branching paths, but only one leads to the quest item.

After entering the cave, move forward until you see Umut the Brave. From there, follow the left-side path deeper into the tunnel. Along this route, keep an eye on the cave walls covered with moss and greenery — one of them isn’t real.
How to complete the quest
After picking up the guitar, leave the cave and return to the Bard NPC at Stonewake’s Cross. Speak to him again and hand over the guitar to finish the quest.

The completion dialogue confirms success immediately.
Rewards for returning the guitar
The Unknown Key is especially important, as it opens a locked gate later in the cave system, allowing access to advanced vendors and tools.
