Terraria: How to Craft a Bed With Wood and Silk

To make a bed in Terraria, you are essentially building a small crafting chain: Work Bench → Sawmill → Loom → Silk → Bed. Once you have one bed down, moving your spawn and skipping long nights becomes much easier while you explore and build.

Locations

You will spend most of your time near the surface chopping trees for Wood, then underground in caves and webs for Cobweb to turn into Silk at your Loom.

You will also need early ore access to make Iron or Lead Bars for the Sawmill ingredients, so a short mining trip to find ore and a safe route back to base helps a lot.

How to make a bed in Terraria step by step

Step 1: Collect the basic materials

Cut trees until you have at least 37 Wood: 15 for the Bed itself, plus 10 for the Sawmill, and 12 for the Loom.​

Collect at least 35 Cobweb so you can craft 5 Silk, since each Silk costs 7 Cobweb at a Loom.​

Step 2: Place a Work Bench

Make sure you have a Work Bench placed, because the Sawmill recipe is crafted at a Work Bench.​

Step 3: Craft the Chain for the Sawmill

You need Chain as one of the Sawmill ingredients.​
At an Iron or Lead Anvil, Chain can be crafted using any Iron Bar (the recipe outputs multiple Chain at once depending on version), so one bar is usually enough for the single Chain required by the Sawmill.​

Step 4: Craft the Sawmill

At the Work Bench, craft the Sawmill using 10 Wood, 2 Iron or Lead Bars, and Chain, then place the Sawmill on solid blocks or platforms so you can use it.

Step 5: Craft and place a Loom

Stand near your Sawmill and craft a Loom using 12 Wood, then place the Loom so you can craft Silk.​

Step 6: Craft Silk from Cobweb

At the Loom, craft Silk using Cobweb at a 7-to-1 ratio until you have 5 Silk.

Step 7: Craft the Bed

Go back to the Sawmill and craft the Bed using 15 Wood and 5 Silk.

Step 8: Place and use your Bed correctly

Place the Bed (its orientation depends on the direction you face while placing).

Interact with the head to sleep, which speeds time up 5x and provides a health regeneration boost.

To set your spawn point, put the Bed in a valid house and interact with the foot; interact again to remove the spawn point later.

If you are aiming for a smooth early game, prioritize the Sawmill and Loom chain so you can craft Silk and finish your first Bed. Once it is placed in a proper room, you can lock in a safer spawn point and control night pacing when you are not ready to fight outside.
