The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are destined to receive the Android Nougat update before any other Samsung device, but the distribution of the update won’t be in sync throughout the world. Samsung will be rolling out Nougat update to S7 and S7 Edge international variants first, and then to carrier locked devices after receiving carrier’s approval.

This sad/boring distribution of OTA updates on Android devices is the most prominent reason behind slower Android updates, which includes even the most expensive devices of the lot. And unfortunately, this system rules in the USA.

Carrier locked devices get Android updates delayed by almost two or three months from when their international variants get it. The reason? Carrier approval process. Next time your carrier branded Android phone doesn’t receive the next big Android update quicker, don’t blame the manufacturer. It’s the fault of your mobile carrier.

T-Mobile is fast to rollout Android software updates

Fortunately though, T-Mobile is among the few carriers in the world who take considerably lesser time to approve software updates. We’ve seen T-Mobile pushing out Android updates before other carriers does at a number of times every year.

So if you’re a T-Mobile S7 or S7 Edge user, sit back and relax knowing that Android Nougat update will arrive for your device first in the USA before other carrier variants does.

Samsung will most probably release Android Nougat update for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge international variants within 30-45 days of Google’s official release of the update for Nexus devices, which is scheduled for the fall in September or October 2016.

Once the international variants of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge gets Android Nougat update, Samsung will then optimize it for the carrier variant, which in case is T-Mobile S7 (G930T) and S7 Edge (G935T) for us. And once T-Mobile approves the update, which would take upto 30 days, you’ll get the Android Nougat OTA update notification on your device, waiting to be downloaded and installed.
