Sprint is rolling out a new software update to the Galaxy S9 and S9+ that improves the security patch level of the devices, although not the latest version available from Google.

Users of the Pixels have already received updates to April 2019 security patches, but it’s only now that Sprint users are receiving last month’s patches. We are no strangers to these kinds of timelines from carriers, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Since Sprint had already upgraded the Galaxy S9 pair to the latest stable Android Pie update, the latest OTA is based on Pie.

The update is arriving as version G960USQU4CSC7 for the S9 and G965USQU4CSC7 for the S9+and weighs a significant 0.5GB, implying that it is more than just a typical security patch. On its part, Samsung claims to have fixed eleven vulnerabilities and exposures (SVE) with this update while Google fixed eight critical vulnerabilities.

Both devices are receiving the updates over the air, so it may take some time before all units get the download notification.
