Music streaming services, allowing users to find new songs through discovery, were already very useful. With the help of AI, Spotify is taking it to the next step with the announcement of 'Prompted Playlist'. This will allow users to have better control over their playlists.

On their official website, Spotify announced that the 'Prompted Playlist' is rolling out from December 11 in New Zealand. A wider rollout is expected later. It has to be noted that it is a premium feature and will not be available to free users. With this new feature, the algorithm will be under your control, vastly enhancing the music experience.

How does it work

Users will give prompts to the AI, which in turn will generate new suggestions for how your playlists look. Users will not have to rely on auto-generated playlists. Only a detailed prompt is required to do the work.

As per Spotify - You could ask for “music from my top artists from the last five years,” then push it further with “and feature deep cuts I haven’t heard yet.” Or you could request “high-energy pop and hip-hop for a 30-minute 5K run that keeps a steady pace before easing into relaxing songs for a cool-down,” and layer on something like “include music from this year’s biggest films and most-talked-about TV shows that match my taste.” You choose how broad or specific you want to go.

The feature will surely help various users in different scenarios, but the global rollout is still pending. Spotify mentions that it is “a new phase where listeners take the lead and make even more of every minute.”
