Sony Mobile held an event in Japan today and it has announced the Xperia Z4 flagship smartphone officially. The Xperia Z4 adheres to most of the rumors that had surfaced previously.

It weighs in at 144 grams and boasts of a thickness of 6.9 mm and it carries a metal frame. The device is made thinner and lighter than its predecessor and the frame has received a treatment to make it glossy.

The Xperia Z4 carries the IP5, IP6 and IP8 certifications for water and dust resistance. The device is better protected against water as it does not comes with a protective panel for its micro USB charging port and 3.5 mm audio jack. Also, it is claimed that the device can resist under water for up to 4.92 feet for 30 minutes.

Sony has also announced accessories for the Xperia Z4. One accessory is called Cover Window that is waterproof and this lets you view the information displayed on the screen protecting the device. This accessory is priced at $59 and it is available in four different color options. Also, there is a desktop holder that will hold the device and charge it.

When it comes to specifications, the Xperia Z4 flagship smartphone boasts of a 5.2 inch Triluminos display Live Colour LED powered by X-Reality engine with a Full HD 1080p resolution. Powering the smartphone is an octa core Snapdragon 810 processor that supports 64 bit processing and it is paired with Adreno 430 graphics unit and 3 GB of RAM.

For storage, the Xperia Z4 packs in 32 GB of storage space that can be expanded further by another 128 GB using a micro SD card. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop as the other flagship smartphones in the market.

There is a 20.7 MP main snapper at the rear of the Xperia Z4 that features Exmos RS sensor, 4K video recording and cooking mode to capture wonderful snaps of foods. Up front, there is a 5.1 MP front facing camera with Exmor R sensor and 25mm wide-angle lens.

Connectivity wise, the Xperia Z4 is packed with aspects such as 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, MIMO, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, NFC and MHL 3.0. A 2,930 mAh battery energizes the device pumping enough juice to it along with the Battery STAMINA mode. The device also has Sony’s DSEE HX audio technology with LDAC codec support.

Sony has announced that the Xperia Z4 will be going official in Japan later this summer and there is no official word regarding the pricing of the device and its global availability.
