April 4, 2019: Sony started rolling out Pie to the Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus in late February, but it was discovered to have major issues and subsequently halted. Today, the rollout has resumed, arriving as version 50.2.A.0.352 and also installs February 2019 security patch.
February 23, 2019: Sony has a new update for the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra in Russia that installs Android 9 Pie update to the duo, but early adopters are reportedly experiencing issues with the initial update. The update rolling out has software version 50.2.A.0.342 and weighs about 950MB, tagging along new stuff like a new notification menu and app UI, new volume slider design, a new camera app, and so on.
While some users are enjoying the goodies of Pie and all, unfortunately, the same update is also bricking devices of others, leaving the screen unresponsive and sometimes issues begin at boot level. Some users say the update breaks TWRP and even worse is that they cannot recover the handset using Sony Companion software since you end with the same firmware.
The Sony Xperia support team has picked up the issue and promised to release a fix soon, so better skip the current rollout if it comes your way.
