Rooting an android device is not that complicated these days, with one-click root solutions being available now almost for every android device. And the latest to get a easy one-click root is the Sony Tablet S, launched last year.
By rooting your android device, you lose the warranty. But you can get it back by flashing an official firmware back, or simply using an unroot tool (if available, of course) to remove the root access from device.
Also, it’s not recommended to install OTA (over-the-air) update when you android device is rooted. So, if and when you get an update notification on your Tablet S, resist and don’t just install it. In case you wanna install the update, unroot it or install a firmware back, and then go for OTA. So, take care of that, even when that OTA update is that of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Backup Apps and other Important Data before Rooting Tablet S
Although it shouldn’t erase your apps and data, it’s still recommended that you back them up before proceeding further. To backup your apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. this Android backup guide would help you. Restore APN settings if Internet isn’t working for you, after installing the rom.
