After plenty of rumors, Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are finally here, marking the Japanese company’s entry into the trending 18:9 displays’ club and a slight departure from the traditional block-like Xperia phones we’ve gotten used to over the years.

Of course, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact haven’t lost the distinct Sony vibe of large bezels, but this time you get rounded corners, 3D glass and an aluminum frame as well as a curved back, which is more pronounced on the Compact model.

The pair has a lot in common: same chipset, memory, display design and specs, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, dust and water resistance, universal USB-C port and software.

Sony debuted the ability to record 960fps slow-motion videos on the Xperia XZ Premium a year ago and now that Samsung has come aboard with the Galaxy S9 and S9+, Sony has just upped the game, where the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact now support 1080p slow-motion videos as opposed to the S9 and S9+’s 720p.
