What to know
- Snapchat rolls out native support for iPad.
- Snapchat launched for iOS in 2011, but has never had official support for the iPad, until now.
- Unfortunately, Snapchat can only run in portrait mode on iPads. Support for landscape mode is still unavailable.
- Snapchat on iPads require iPadOS 13.0 or later.
After long last, Snapchat is finally available on iPad as well. It’s only taken the social media app 13 years to roll out support for iPads. Release on a larger screen has been a long time coming.
Snapchat’s App Store release notes:
“Snapchat now offers native support for iPad! This means that Snapchat will fill an iPad’s full screen, providing you with a larger canvas when capturing Snaps and allowing you to see more friends on the 2nd and 4th tabs.”
The company didn’t mention why iPad users have had to wait more than a dozen years for official support. Most users might have given up hope that such a day would even come. But now that it’s here, iPad users can finally install Snapchat on their large screen Apple mobile devices.
There is a catch, however. The app is still not fully optimized for tablets. So you’ll only be able to run Snapchat in portrait mode. Landscape mode is still a distant dream.
Nevertheless, its release on iPad will become a testing ground for many of its new and upcoming features, including several AI-powered tools.
Installation will require iPad 13.0 or later.
