Snap (the parent company of Snapchat) is planning to launch its third generation of Spectacles sunglasses by the end of this year but may do so with an expensive price tag of $350 — more than double the price of the second-gen Spectacles glasses. According to a report of Cheddar, the Spectacles 3 will tack on two cameras instead of one.
The Spectacles 1 launched in 2016 could record a video of 10 seconds duration and a maximum of 30-second video at one time with the help of its single camera. And with Spectacles 2, launched in April this year, the video quality was bumped to HD resolution. The Spectacles 3, however, now adds some significant upgrades.

The Spectacles 3, reportedly codenamed Newport, shuns plastic as it is now made out of aluminum. The dual cameras are capable of creating augmented reality effects in videos. This will, however, require the Snapchat app to overlay AR lenses and produce 3D-like photo effects from clips captured by the Spectacles 3 cameras.
Despite the new upgrades, the $350 price for the Spectacles 3 appears quite steep especially when the last two generations of Snap Spectacles have witnessed lukewarm response from the buyers.
As the financially strapped company is currently grappling with the dwindling Snapchat user base we suspect if Snap is pivoting towards the wearables to stay afloat in the competition? Only time will tell. We should only wait and watch for the answer.
