Sleeping Daoist Boss Mechanics and Tips

Like most World Boss fights, the fight with the Sleeping Daoist occurs in two phases.

Phase 1

In phase one, the boss performs repeated ground slams by leaping off a tree, sending shockwaves through the terrain, and throwing stones at you. He follows up with rapid spinning melee attacks and staggered ranged blasts while his donkey does front leg slams that are unblockable and deal significant damage.

Failing to dodge or parry these can lead quickly to death, so movement and timing are essential.

Phase 2

In the next phase, attacks become more aggressive and introduce new mechanics like the boss disappearing and creating multiple copies of himself. Quickly identify and attack the glowing true copy.

He also summons a donkey stampede to disrupt positioning and uses wood spikes that sprout from the ground.

Weakness

The Sleeping Daoist’s key vulnerability is during stagger windows after heavy combo attacks or during phases where he disappears. The short attack animations mean ranged pressure combined with mobility arts is effective at capitalizing on those moments.

How to beat Sleeping Daoist in one go

Step 1

Prepare your build with high-mobility arts (Cloud Steps) and healing tools. Then travel to the location - Sundara Land’s Jadebrook Mountain near the Path of Karma teleporter.

Step 2

Observe phase one, dodge ground slams, parry spinning melee attacks, and use ranged attacks to chip away at his health.

Step 3

Use Cloud Steps to evade projectiles and donkey charges, maintaining optimum positioning.

Step 4

Conserve healing for stagger moments and disappearances and effectively manage stamina.

Step 5

Quickly identify and damage the glowing boss copy during the disappearing act phase, avoid donkey stampedes, and dodge wood spikes.

Step 6

Exploit stagger windows with burst melee combos, combined with Mystic or Infernal Arts, to do maximum damage, closing out the fight cleanly.

A solid loadout should include:

  • Mystic Arts like Cloud Steps for mobility and Threefold Skywalk for versatile positioning.
  • Infernal Arts such as Evening Snow for area control and Panacea Fan for healing sustain.
  • Weapons that offer ranged damage like the Soulshade Umbrella and healing capabilities like the Panacea Fan help maintain safety during the fight’s harder phases.
