The plates must be arranged on the lock plaque in an order that reflects a symbolic battle between the Sword and Fox on scales, with the overall arrangement depending on the player's chosen ending.
Here is the correct arrangement for each ending path:
| Ending | Top | Left | Right | Bottom | Flip instructions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coming Home to Roost (Ending 1) | Heavens | Swords | Fox | — | Flip Scales |
| Fox’s Wedding (Ending 2) | Fox | Scales | Black Bird | — | Flip Swords, Flip Heavens |
| The Fox Wets Its Tail (Ending 3) | Swords | White Bird | Scales | — | Flip Fox, Flip Heavens |
| Ebisugaoka in Silence (Ending 4) | — | White Bird | Black Bird | Heavens | Flip Scales |
Details in the player's journal hint at the arrangement: The Sword and Fox battle on scales that have been destroyed, symbolized by flipping the scales plate. The sun rises behind the Fox and sets behind the Sword, influencing their placement.
