Shadows of Dread: Step-by-step guide

Below, you can find the step-by-step walkthrough to complete the Shadows of Dread quest:

Step 1: Head to the Sewers

Follow your compass and floor markers to the sewer entrance. The path is linear but guarded; use short bursts of sprint to close the distance.

Step 2: Enter the Sewers

Once inside, follow the markings; it will lead you to the perpetrator. The route is populated by filthoids, eliminate them as you move forward.

Step 3: Approach the Panicked Man

You’ll find a civilian in distress. Approach carefully — this triggers the next encounter.

Step 4: Decryption Initiation

A panel or console will require decryption. When decrypting, mash/hold the required button (A) as instructed to progress the meter to “break through” the drag ranges.

Step 5: Defend the Civilian

Defend the civilian as more enemies spawn. A tough new enemy, the Silverback Mouse, will show up.

Step 6: Unlock the Gate (Reactivate Control Panel Once Function Returns)

After surviving waves, the control panel reboots. Interact to open the gate.

Step 7: Rescue the Trapped Civilian (Kill 7 Filthoids)

Push forward along the marked route. You must eliminate a set number of Filthoids to free the civilian.

Step 8: Decrypt

Another rapid-press decryption under pressure. Continue pressing (A) to break through the drag ranges.

Step 9: Reactivate the Control Panel

Hold the designated button to unlock the valve. A swarm of Filthoids will show up; be prepared.

Step 10: Drain the Waste Water and Pursue the Perpetrator

After reactivating the nearby control panel, initiate the drainage system to lower the water level in the sewers. As the mechanism starts, waves of Filthoids will continue spawning in increasing numbers. Focus on survival rather than pushing forward recklessly.
