Samsung has retained its top position in the smartphone market with 21.3% of the total share in Q1. The company sold 80 million smartphones during the period which belonged to Galaxy S series, Galaxy J and A series, as per Market Monitor, a quarterly report from Counterpoint Research.

The second spot was grabbed by Apple with approximately 50 million smartphones sold followed by Chinese OEMs Huawei, Oppo and Vivo. Apple’s sales fell 1% as compared to last quarter.

Huawei, Oppo and Vivo sold 34.6 million units,25.5 million units and 22.7 million units with their respective sales increasing by 22%, 93% and 82%. LG managed to garner the sixth position with 14.8 million units sold and a 10% year-on-year rise.

Overall, the smartphone market share registered 0.8 percent hike. And as per a researcher from Counterpoint team, Lim Chae-jung, Oppo, Vibo and Huawei posted double-digit growth and with this the competition is bound to rise in the international market.
