Samsung’s “Sketch to Image” feature is an exciting addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, part of the One UI 6.1.1 update. If you’re wondering whether this feature will be available on other popular devices like the Galaxy S22, S23, or S24, let’s dive into the details.

What is Sketch to Image?

The “Sketch to Image” feature allows you to transform simple sketches into stunning images using AI technology. You can access it through the Edge panels or the Air command menu when using an S Pen. The process is straightforward: draw something on your device, select a style (like watercolor or pop art), and let the AI generate an image based on your sketch. This feature enhances creativity by allowing users to add artistic elements to their drawings easily.

Device compatibility

Currently, Sketch to Image is exclusively available on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. You also need the One UI 6.1.1 update for this.

Unfortunately, devices like the Galaxy S24S23, S24, Fold 5, Flip 5, Fold 4, Flip 4, or any other device do not support this feature. The primary reason for this limitation seems to stem from hardware capabilities and software optimizations specific to the Z series.

Why only Z Fold 6 and Flip 6?

Samsung has designed the Sketch to Image feature with specific hardware in mind. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 come equipped with advanced processing power and display technologies that enhance the experience of drawing and generating images. These devices are optimized for multitasking and creative applications, which is crucial for features that rely heavily on real-time processing and AI capabilities.

Additionally, Samsung has stated that the support for features may vary depending on the model and software version. This means that even if older devices have similar hardware, they may not have the necessary software optimizations or features integrated into their systems.

Why the limitations (It’s an AI thing, y’know!)

Well, as given above too, the only reason seems to be that the AI algorithms used in Sketch to Image require significant computational resources that may not be available in older models.

Too bad it’s limited to two devices only!

While it’s disappointing that popular models like the Galaxy S22/23/24 and Fold 5/4/3 and Flip 5/4/3 or any other devices don’t support Sketch to Image, it’s clear that Samsung has tailored this feature for its latest foldable devices only that feature the NPU chipset the feature (desperately) needs. If you’re interested in exploring this creative tool, then the only way to do it get yourself a Galaxy Z Flip 6 or Z Fold 6.
