Samsung regularly launches a wide range of devices targeting all price segments and with the mid-ranged Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 2017 series, announced by Samsung at CES 2017, which was recently released in Malaysia, has finally graced the India market.
Both the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 follow the tried and tested design trend of curved glass and metal unibody, which while are definitely elegant in design, they lack anything refreshing in the design department. The new dual-sim A series also offers an IP68 rating providing it with water and dust resistance, enhanced camera features and a fingerprint scanner among various others.
“At Samsung, we are always committed to innovate as per the need of our consumers to ensure that they have the most advanced and modern products in the market today.” said Mr. Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Samsung India
“The latest Galaxy A (2017) series is a testament to our commitment. We have integrated our consumers’ feedback on previous models along with our unique design approach and features, to give an added performance and premium experience to the users.” he added further.
The Galaxy A5 (2017) implements a 5.2-inch Full-HD SAMOLED display and is powered by an Exynos 7880 processor alongside a 3GB RAM and an expandable 32GB of internal storage. The smartphone also boasts of a 16MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture both on the front and rear. With the device being supported by a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, be sure to expect an almost full day of usage. On the software front, the phone comes with Android Marshmallow out of the box which at the price tag Samsung is asking for, is a bit disheartening.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) on the other hand, has a relatively bigger 5.7-inch Full-HD SAMOLED display with the similar Exynos 7880 processor with 3GB of RAM and an expandable 32GB onboard storage. The device also implements a similar 16MP camera with f/1.9 aperture on the front and back. The Galaxy A7 (2017) also has a larger 3,600mAh battery with fast charging capacity. The device also runs on the ‘outdated‘ Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy A5 will be available for INR 28,990 whereas Samsung Galaxy A7 will fetch for a premium price of INR 33,490, and will be available in two colours — Black Sky and Gold Sand.
While the devices are respectable at best, one wonders if the asking price is either for the device itself or for the Samsung brand that comes with it. If you are still of the opinion that the Galaxy A series (2017) are the devices for you, pre-booking for the devices starts on March 7 via the Samsung e-store as well as offline retailers. The phones will be available in India starting March 15th onward.
