If you found the Galaxy Note 2 a bit too small to replace your tablet, then Samsung has come up with a solution for you – the Galaxy Note 8.0, an over-sized Galaxy Note 2, details of which were leaked earlier but have now been made official just a day before the Mobile World Congress is set to go off in Barcelona.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 naturally has an 8-inch display of the TFT LCD type, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. That was known already from previous leaks, and other specs – such as the 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2 GB RAM, 16/32 GB storage and microSD slot, 5 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel rear and front cameras, and the 4,600 mAh battery have also been confirmed by the official announcement.
The Note 8.0 runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with all the TouchWiz customization found on the Galaxy Note 2, and you also get the S Pen stylus which should feel right at home on the 8-inch screen. Also, you’ll be able to make phone calls as well with the device’s HSPA-enabled variant, which will be released in some countries.
Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Note 8.0 worldwide in the second quarter of this year, with the US launch yet to be finalized Pricing hasn’t been announced, but if Samsung really does mean to compete against the iPad Mini, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will have to be similarly low-priced.
