Samsung and Google to work together on advancing AI

Despite being rivals in the smartphone industry, Samsung has announced that it will be working closely with Google to help improve Artificial Intelligence technology. Lee Kyeong-tae, a member of Samsung’s marketing division stated so during a conference call.

Samsung is working on a new AI assistant called Bixby for their upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone. The company will compete with the likes of Google’s Assistant and Apple’s Siri. Google has been the leader when it comes to AI and its Google assistant found on the new Pixel phones are great.

Artificial Intelligence tech has been growing slowly and is making its way on to the mainstream consumer products. For example, the Amazon Echo features Alexa, and it is a home product. Similarly, Samsung plans to brings its AI assistant to other products such as TVs and tablet devices.

Instead of competing with Google, who is currently the world leader, Samsung wants to work with them and improve the overall technology. Samsung is said to announce the Galaxy S8 in March instead of February. We will have to wait and watch what the Samsung assistant can do and how does it compete with the others.
