The import record entries at Zauba reveal that the Galaxy S6 has touched India, for ‘R&D’ purposes. What is special about this news is that it almost confirms that Samsung has finalized the processor and network bands that the Galaxy S6 would support, at least for specific markets, and as such is testing them already in India and maybe several other countries.
The device under testing in India includes ‘F’ at the end of its model no., SM-G920F, signalling it’s a European device, most probably with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip — maybe 810, probably 805 — and that it’s not the Exynos chip in use, mainly used for Samsung flagship devices in India.
Galaxy S6 LTE releasing in India?
FYI, the model no. of S5 for European market and with Snapdragon processor is SM-G900F, while that running on the Exynos processor, for India, is SM-G900H. So yes, it’s strange that a European handset is being tested in India where Samsung has traditionally been releasing non-LTE Exynos powered phones.
But, on the hand, that could also be our clue to India also receiving the LTE variant of the flagship, powered by Snapdragon processor. The reason behind this could be the emergence of LTE networks in India, and Samsung would surely want to cash in on it sooner than later. What’s more, even the low-cost phones like the just announced Yu Yureka have the LTE support on the cards.
Galaxy S6 Release Details
The network testing is just one of many things, obviously. But since S6 looks to have reached that stage, we assume the processor has been finalized too since it plays a definite role in which networks a device would support.
We think Samsung would be hard at work finalizing the other crucial elements of the Galaxy S6. One of that would be the software — Android 5.0.2 at the least, if not Android 5.1 which could be out by the time Galaxy S6 release date arrives — along with the new version of TouchWiz, probably with theme support.
To us, Samsung looks set to unveil the Galaxy S6 at Samsung unpacked event that could be taking place in Feb (most probably) or March next year. We expect Samsung to announce the Galaxy S6 release date at that event only, which should be in April, otherwise May.
Recently, rumors suggesting the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) announcement (Jan 6-9) of the Galaxy S6 emerged, but that looks highly unlikely to us for two reasons.
First, Samsung has avoided the crowded stage of CES for its flagship devices with the S3, S4 and the S5. And second, a separate event like Samsung unpacked for its flagship devices has given the device more highlight and special press coverage, without the mix-up with other devices caused at CES or MWC (Mobile World Congress).
Why wait for Galaxy S6 release?
Well, that’s easy to impress figure out. Samsung packs impressive hardware, a trend-setter if you may, with its Galaxy S series flagship devices and we expect the same with Galaxy S6. And this time, S series is going to get some metal. Yep, finally!
Galaxy S6 is rumored to come with solid specs, which include, 5.2 or 5.5″ Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution, that’s 2560 x 1440 pixels (like LG G3), next-gen Snapdragon 810 processor (Exynos 7 octa-core processor for non-LTE regions), 16MP (or more) camera, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (and more), Android 5.0 and battery of more than 2800 mAh.
Samsung’s Super AMOLED displays are among the top two display tech for more than last few years, in fact, ever since smartphones took the world over and became that integral part of our life. It would be stupid to buy a new premium device in 2015 without having a look at Galaxy S6 display, and the performance of its Exynos 7/Snapdragon 810 processor, and the new metallic design. The Snapdragon processor wouldn’t be Samsung exclusive by the way, we expect it to power almost all flagship devices of next year, be it Sony Xperia Z4, HTC One M9 or LG G4.
Display apart, rumors suggesting the use of metal in Galaxy S series are very strong this time around, and we really believe that the Galaxy S6 wouldn’t be plastic-only or a non-metal device. That really makes a good ground for battles of the S6 vs device like, HTC One M9, Nexus 6, LG G4, Xperia Z4, etc.
That’s it.
What do you think when Samsung would announce Galaxy S6, CES, MWC or Samsung Unpacked? You think Samsung got guts to build a metallic Galaxy S6 which would look better than the HTC One M9, given the fact that HTC One device have looked far far batter than their Galaxy S counterparts, the S4 and S5?
