As expected, Samsung released its flagship smartphone Galaxy S6 and its curved display variant Galaxy S6 Edge in India at an event in New Delhi today. The pre-orders for these smartphones will start from today and the devices will go on sale on April 10. India is one of the 20 markets that will witness the release of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on the aforementioned date.
When it comes to pricing, the Galaxy S6 is priced at Rs 49,900, Rs 58,900 and Rs 61,900 for the 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants respectively. On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 Edge is priced at Rs 58,900, Rs 64,900 and Rs 70,900 for 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants respectively.
As Samsung designed the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge from the scratch with the codename Project Zero, the cheap plastic finish is gone and there is metal and glass on these devices. The flagship smartphones boasts of Gorilla Glass 4 protection and metal all over adding a distinct design to them.
In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S6 arrives with a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED Quad HD 2560×1440 pixel display with a high pixel density of 577 ppi. Under its hood, there is an Exynos 7420 octa core chipset with 64 bit support and 3 GB of RAM. While there are three variants of the device based on the storage space, there is no support for expandable storage as the handset lacks a micro SD card slot.
In terms of photography, the Galaxy S6 boasts of a 16 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and there is a 5 MP front facer for selfies and video conferencing. The only difference between the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is the dual side displays that curve till the back on the latter and a larger 2,600 mAh battery in it that is slightly higher in capacity than the 2,550 mAh battery in the Galaxy S6. The non-removable batteries support Ultra Power Saving Mode, wireless charging and fast charging that can charge the battery from zero to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
There is an improved fingerprint scanner on the Samsung smartphones that is touch based similar to Apple TouchID. The device packs in connectivity aspects such as LTE support, NFC, IR Blaster, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Fueled by Android 5.0 Lollipop, the devices are topped with revamped TouchWiz UI that is claimed to be free of bloatware.
