Not long after Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini was just made official today by the Samsung Mobile President, JK Shin, while having a chat with the press, the full spec-sheet, price and images of the mini Galaxy S3 have leaked out. Sure, we will know all these things officially too, tomorrow, but it’s still even more cool to have it from rumor mill a full day earlier, no?
So, here we go about the specs. First up, we know for sure its codename is indeed, GT-i8190. Moving to what it packs inside, there is a 1 GHz dual-core processor, an unknown hitherto STE U8420 one, along with 1 GB RAM to keep things peppy and quick (hopefully, that is). It will have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from day one, which is good, and will obviously have Samsung’s own UI, TouchWiz, atop it. And it’s got a 5 megapixel camera sensor on the back and a VGA one in front for video chat, apart form the 16 GB internal memory with a microSD car slot for additional storage. As for the thickness, it’s 9.85 mm, and battery is a moderate 1500 mAh. Let’s move to display now.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini equips a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, but there’s a catch – the Super AMOLED displays Samsung is providing to Motorola (in Razr series, for example) and other companies, and in fact, also using on its Galaxy Nexus phones, are very sub-par in quality (pretty dull, not that bright, which these display are actually known for) compared to the same named displays it uses in its flagship devices, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2. So, if Sammy just cut the S3’s display and fit it into S3 mini, it’s going to be pretty striking display, but if it’s the one that the company has been using in Galaxy Nexus, not so cool, given its branding of ‘Mini’ version of the Galaxy S3. Talking of displays, the resolution is that of old Galaxy S if you remember, at 480 x 800 pixels. Not bad because asking for an HD display was a little bit too much, anyway — even though possible and a right thing to do if the company cared more (given the naming scheme). Check out the full spec-sheet at bottom for rest of specs.
The price of Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has been rumored to be €399, which converts to $513. That’s unlocked and totally sim-free, but actually, when you know that the Galaxy Nexus with an HD display is shipping for just $350 in US, it simply makes you laugh at the S3 Mini’s pricing.
Lastly, here are some images of the Mini Galaxy S3 that have leaked.
