Samsung has launched a groundbreaking update for its Galaxy S25 series, bringing real-time visual AI capabilities through the Gemini Live feature. This update, available at no additional cost, allows users to engage in live, camera-based interactions with Google’s Gemini AI assistant. Starting April 7, 2025, Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra users can access this feature via a simple software update.
Gemini Live enables users to activate the AI by pressing and holding the side button on their device. Once activated, the AI can analyze what the camera sees or interpret a shared screen in real time. For instance, users can point their camera at an outfit and ask for styling advice or share their screen while shopping online to receive personalized suggestions. This feature transforms the phone into a more intuitive assistant, offering real-time, conversational support for various tasks.
Samsung has emphasized the potential of this feature to make everyday life more convenient. Jay Kim, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the innovation, stating, “Together with Google, we are marking a bold step toward the future of mobile AI, delivering smarter interactions that are deeply in sync with how we live, work, and communicate.”

The Gemini Live update is not just about convenience but also about redefining how users interact with their devices. By combining visual context with conversational AI, Samsung aims to set a new standard in mobile technology. The feature is particularly notable for its ability to offer practical advice, such as helping users organize their closets, suggesting complementary outfits, or even assisting with online shopping decisions.
While similar AI features exist, the integration of real-time visual capabilities sets the Galaxy S25 series apart from competitors like Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa, which primarily rely on voice commands. This innovation builds on Samsung’s previous AI advancements, such as the ProVisual Engine, further enhancing the functionality of its flagship devices.
For now, the Gemini Live feature is exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series and Google Pixel 9 devices. However, Samsung has hinted at the possibility of expanding this capability to other Galaxy models in the future. Users of older Galaxy devices may also access similar features through the Gemini app, albeit with a Google One AI Premium subscription.
As the update rolls out, Galaxy S25 users are encouraged to explore the new functionality and experience the next generation of AI-powered interactions. With this innovation, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of what smartphones can achieve, making them not just tools but true companions in daily life.
