Galaxy J1 Mini update: April security patch rolling out as build J106BUBU0AQC2

The Galaxy J1 Mini is an ultra budget smartphone from Samsung. To be precise, the J1 Mini is the Australian variant of the Galaxy J1 and carries the model number SM-J105Y.

The device sports bare minimum specs like 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on board storage of which, only about 4GB is usable. The smartphone runs on a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The front of the device features a 4-inch 480 x 800 TFT display.

Coming to the software, the J1 Mini runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It seems like the smartphone requires a much needed upgrade, especially one that could give it a slight performance increase.

Galaxy J1 Mini Nougat update: will it receive it?

It seems highly unlikely that this smartphone could receive Nougat any time soon. Even Marshmallow is a doubt for this one, to be frank. As, Samsung would have launched the device with Marshmallow on-board if it wanted the device to run anything above Lollipop.

Given the countless number of budget Samsung devices there are, developers may find it difficult to keep all of them on the latest version on Android available. Nevertheless, the J1 Mini hasn’t been entirely forgotten either.

Samsung is still rolling out monthly security patches to the device. The latest update arrives as build J106BUBU0AQC2 and applies the April security patch to protect the device from several vulnerabilities. Of course, this update is Marshmallow based.
