Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 Android Oreo global rollout is ready to begin

Samsung’s Galaxy A8 2016 is the only smartphone outside the flagship S and Note series from 2016 that has a promise to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update. In fact, the device’s Oreo update already commenced in South Korea several weeks ago and from the look of things, the global rollout of the OS is ready to begin.

In June 2018, we learned that the Galaxy A8 2016 will also be updated to Android Oreo and in late July 2018, reports of the device receiving an update to Oreo in Korea started showing up online. The Korean variant of the A8 2016 has model number SM-A810S and today, the Wi-Fi Alliance has cleared another variant of the device with model number SM-A810F, which is the variant you’ll find in most markets across the globe.

The certified model SM-A810F has Android 8.0 Oreo on board, meaning the device has been cleared to receive the update. In any case, what remains is for Samsung to push the release button and the OTA download notification will start showing up on the global Galaxy A8 2016 handsets.

Like many other midrange Samsung devices, the Galaxy A8 2016 wasn’t sold in all markets across the globe. The device was released in the local market of Korea and a handful of others in Europe and Asia and back then, it came with Android Marshmallow running the show. The device has since been upgraded to Android Nougat, an update that most owners of the device believed would be the final major OS upgrade.
