We discussed Samsung’s Galaxy3 (aka i5800) earlier and broke its lengths and breadths against Galaxy Spica for what it’s worth. Now, we got the most decisive factor, the price of the phone, mooned at 14000 rubles in Russia. That’s €365 / $ 450 / INR 21K, which is clearly absurd for a remake of Samsung’s own Galaxy Spica, which also inherits all the main features, save for Android 2.1, which you can get by flashing/rooting it.

So, what makes Samsung think they can score so high? Is it just the new phone craziness that Samsung think will drive customers? Or Android2.1, by deliberately not rolling it down to Spica, to force purchase of new devices. Whichever, we aren’t sold. $450 is too much given that you can have Google’s Nexus One for $530 as it loads more features as compared to additonal money you pour in.

Speaking of features, Galaxy 3 boasts a 3.2 inch WQVGA screen with 170 MB internal memory running Android 2.1 with 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera and Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 3.5 mm headset jack. Expected release date remains firm in, July. You do find all these features in Samsung Apollo (i5801) also, which is only a twin of Galaxy 3 and is headed to Orange UK.
