Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 3 7.0

Samsung has done it yet again – the Korean manufacturer has announced the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, yet another 7-inch tablet that’s only a meager upgrade over its former except for coming with a newer version of Android out of the box. Oh, and also a new design that follows the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 8.0.

The 7-inch display still has the same 1024 x 600 resolution, which is noticeably lower than the standard 1280 x 800 resolution found in all 7-inch tablets these days. The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM, and also has a 3-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front camera, 8/16GB storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, HSPA, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, and a 4,000 mAh battery.

Similar to the Galaxy Note 8.0, the 3G variant is capable of making phone calls. Software-wise, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – yep, not the latest version of Android, which goes to show this is a successor to one of the company’s best-selling 7-inch tablet just for the sake of it, not because it makes sense. Typical Samsung, eh?

The Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 will be available worldwide in May, while the 3G model will follow in June. Pricing wasn’t mentioned, but if the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is any indication, it should provide plenty bang for the buck.
