Rumors are coming in from everywhere for HTC’s upcoming flagship, the One M9. What we have heard so far are only the top tier things for the device, like the Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB RAM, 20MP camera and such stuff.

The latest HTC One M9 rumor has it that the HTC One M9 will be running a MediaTek SoC processor in China. It’ll be a top tier processor from the labs of MediaTek that will compete directly with the Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm that is expected to be powering the HTC One M9 everywhere else in the world.

The news of MediaTek SoC on HTC One M9 comes from China Times, and we have reasons to believe it as only recently HTC partnered with MediaTek to launch two variants of the same device, HTC Desire 820 and 820s, one running a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the other running a MediaTek chip.

There were also rumors regarding the Snapdragon 810 processor having overheating issues, but Qualcomm quickly suppressed those. If the HTC One M9 is likely to feature a MediaTek SoC indeed, it’ll be interesting to see the price difference between the Qualcomm and MediaTek variants.

As for the performance, the MediaTek SoC in question is the MediaTek  MT6795 64-bit Octa-Core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. This chip was announced by MediaTek in July, 2014 and has been since then rumored to be the Snapdragon 810 killer. And if HTC is putting the MediaTek MT6795 on its flagship it should be on par with the Snapdragon 810 processor.
