Sony recently rolled out Android 5.1.1 update to the elder members of the Xperia family of devices — Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z. The update rolled out globally with the same build number 10.7.A.0.222 for all, and while we don’t have info on root for all the devices, the Xperia ZL C6503 seems to have already gotten a pre-rooted custom ROM based on the 10.7.A.0.222 firmware from Russia.

Xperia ZL carries the same model number C6503 in Russia as it does in International markets, so it’s safe to install this pre-rooted custom ROM on your Xperia ZL C6503 from other parts of the world.

The pre-rooted 10.7.A.0.222 firmware is developed by Bird40 over at xda and it is stock for the most part except for the modifications made to get it rooted. Apart from root, the ROM also fixes the /system mount issue with TWRP recovery on Xperia ZL.

You can grab the .zip file of the pre-rooted 5.1.1 ROM for Xperia ZL from the download link below and flash via custom recovery along with a required factory reset.
