Rivals and Friends is an emotional and artistic Wandering Tale located in the South Imperial Garden near Baijon Tower. This quest follows two poets, Wen Jinyu and Gai Yangshu, who are caught between rivalry and mutual admiration. By collecting items, painting cherry blossoms, and bridging misunderstandings, you help restore their friendship.

Location & how to start

Start at Kaifeng's South Imperial Garden near the Baijon Tower in Jadewood Court. You will find poet Wen Jinyu sitting inside a pavilion and another poet Gai Yangshu under the Cherry Blossom tree. Interact with them to begin the tale.

Walkthrough

Here is how you can complete the Rivals and Friends Wandering Tale in Where Winds Meet:

Step 1: Reach Cherry Blossoms

Make your way to South Imperial Garden's Cherry Blossoms to find poet Wen Jinyu. Ask him about the poetry contest and his rival.

Step 2: Talk to Gai Yanghsu

Find Gai Yangshu near the boundary stone of South Imperial Garden. Talk to him to know about his thoughts of his rival.

Step 3: Find Ni Yun

Find Ni Yun inside the Temple, on the first floor, towards your left. Get the Book of Skills from Ni Yun for Wen Jinyu.

Step 4: Find Bai Zhu

Get the Soothing Throat Tea for Gai Yangshu from herbalist Bai Zhu.

Step 5: Talk to Gai Yangshu

After collecting the materials, talk to Gai Yangshu and he reveals another request for himself and Wen Jinyu.

Step 6: Paint the Cherry Blossoms

Go to the location to find the best view as 'recording the cherry blossoms' and paint them for Gai Yangshu. This position is the Immortal Bridge's stone gate.

Step 7: Get Tang Flower Poems

For Wen Jinyu, get the 'writings on flower viewings' from the South Imperial Gate interiors.

Step 8: Give Gai Yangshu both items

Meet Gai Yangshu and give him both items one by one - Soothing Throat Tea and Cherry Blossom Painting.

Step 9: Give Wen Jinyu both items

Meet Wen Jinyu and give him both items one by one - Tang Flower Poems and Book of Skills.

Step 10: Hang the curtain

Wen Jinyu's pavilion has a prompt to hang the curatain. On selecting it, a cutscene showing both poets side by side is triggered.

Step 11: Complete the tale

Talk to them and let them see each other. This concludes the tale.
