We are moving closer to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and a lot has been revealed about the upcoming device. However, Samsung R&D Chief DoonHoon Jang is trying to emphasize the handset’s new technologies, promising that the company’s 2015 flagship will contain one of the best smartphone cameras ever made.
Although no specifications about the hardware or features were disclosed, the leaked details from its prototype suggests the Samsung Galaxy S6 camera is fitted with a 20-mega pixel rear camera with OIS (model numbers SLSI_S%K@T@_FIMC_IC and SLSI_S5K4E6_FIMC_IS) and a 5-megapixel selfie camera similar to one spotted on Samsung’s current Galaxy A series line.
Coming to the software part, Samsung is said to be using Android 5.0 Lollipop’s new camera APIs to offer a Pro mode in the camera app. The Pro mode will allow users to choose between 3 different focus modes, including the one which supports manual focusing. We could also expect other advanced features, such as the ability to save high-quality RAW images.
However, we should wait and see if Samsung will incorporate such a high-resolution sensor and all of these advanced features in its final product. Cost and mass production issues may limit the sensor to just the Galaxy S6 Edge, for a premium price.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge details will be officially revealed on March 1st at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
