Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro was announced a little over a month ago and despite boasting some of the best performance specs in its segment, the phone disappointingly comes preinstalled with Android Nougat.

The reason people might be worried about this aspect is Xiaomi’s poor record in software updates, something that even had us thinking the Redmi Note 5 Pro was on track to get Oreo in Q3 2018. However, it seems Xiaomi has other ideas for the self-proclaimed camera beast.

Apparently, Xiaomi has a ready firmware for the Redmi Note 5 Pro that is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Coming in as MIUI 9.5.4, the firmware is already available for downloading and flashing on your phone.

It’s interesting to see that Xiaomi is skipping v8.0 to v8.1, but it’s not new as the company was also among the few Android OEMs that got their devices to Nougat 7.1.2.

To flash the firmware on your Redmi Note 5 Pro, you’ll have to go the TWRP way, a procedure we’ve covered well here.

It’s also worth noting that this firmware is specific to the Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but it should mean the Indian version will get Oreo soon, too.
