Sony recently began rolling out a OTA to fix the Stagefright vulnerability on its Flagship devices in various regions with the 23.4.A.0.580 firmware build. However, users who have rooted their devices couldn’t install an OTA update, and downloading/installing the full firmware of 1.4GB is too much of a task.
Well, thanks to manipars over at xda, you don’t have to take the trouble to flash full firmware to get the Stagefright patch on your Xperia device. Instead, you can just download the recovery flashable .zip file that manipars created with all the updated “35 libstagefright libraries” from the OTA Sony is releasing.
The zip is originally made from Xperia Z3 Compact firmware, but has been reportedly working fine for other Xperia devices as well. It’s safe to try but we’d still recommend you to take a nandroid backup before you install the zip as it may cause a bootloop on some older 5.0.2 ROMs.
Grab the Stagefright lib update patch from the download link below and flash it via any custom recovery of your choice, no wipe of any sorts required.
