What to know

  • PlayStation Portal now supports full cloud streaming of PS5 games you own.
  • Requires PlayStation Plus Premium subscription ($17.99/mo or $159.99/year).
  • Thousands of compatible PS5 titles, including major blockbusters, are available at launch.
  • Streaming is available in most regions but not all (e.g., not yet in Australia).

Sony’s latest update enables PlayStation Portal owners to stream a large library of PS5 games from the cloud, including titles purchased digitally as well as hundreds from the PlayStation Plus Game and Classics Catalog. This feature allows access without powering on a PS5 console or requiring a Remote Play setup.

Supported games number in the thousands at launch, covering new releases such as Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Ghost of Yōtei, Resident Evil 4, GTA V, and more. Also, free-to-play games and cataloged classics like Hogwarts Legacy and Cyberpunk 2077 are included.

How cloud streaming works

Streaming relies on PlayStation Plus Premium membership, and works via dedicated cloud servers. The service is designed for adult accounts, and requires broadband internet (minimum 5Mbps, recommended up to 52Mbps for 4K quality). Streaming can be started right from the Portal’s new interface tabs, with improvements in accessibility (network status, passcode locks, audio, and in-game purchasing).

Regional requirements

Cloud streaming is official in major markets – including the US, Canada, much of Europe, and Japan. It is not available everywhere; Australia is a notable exception currently. Region and account eligibility can affect library access and streaming quality.

To use PS5 cloud streaming, PlayStation Plus Premium is required, costing $17.99 per month or $159.99 per year in the US. The PlayStation Portal handheld itself retails for $199.99, available in Midnight Black and white.
