Selfies are a big deal these days, much to the amusement of all those who were into the “trend” years before it started. Sticks are sold to facilitate even more inclusiveness, and front-facing cameras are seeing ever-increasing megapixel progress. In the Android world, however, few cameras – if any – can compare to those found on Google’s own Pixel smartphone line; perhaps none can rival those on the Pixel 2. One of the reasons for the acclimation was the introduction of Portrait Mode. According to Google, this feature “lets you capture shallow depth-of-field pictures of family, friends, and flowers. It runs on both the rear-facing and selfie cameras, even though neither is a dual camera.” Sadly, those who don’t own a Pixel 2, but do own recent Google phones have been left in the dark…until now.

Thanks to the hard work of Mr Charles Chow, Portrait Mode has now been ported over to the OG Pixel and Pixel 2, as well as 2015’s Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X by way of Camera NX v7.3 which is based on Google’s Camera app Version 5.1.016. Here is a sample image that was posted on his website:

Those who are interested in the app can install the APK file here. Once installed, look for the Camera app with a coloured lens icon in the app drawer.
