The online social space is a mess. From Threads to Mastodon, there’s no shortage of decentralized social networking apps that are trying to brand themselves as alternatives to the Elon Musk owned X (formerly Twitter). Although many of them are decent substitutes with a growing userbase, it’s not easy to manage them all together, especially if you have friends and followers on platforms that don’t (or can’t) talk to each other.
This problem of interoperability is a thorny one. But that is exactly what a new app called ‘Openvibe’ looks to tackle.
Openvibe lets you connect your existing accounts on three platforms – Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky – into a single timeline so you don’t have to jump from app to app to see what your friends and followers are posting, while also giving you the ability to cross-post on all of them together. You can even tag friends on different platforms while posting.
Openvibe will soon add Threads to the mix as well, which has by far been the fastest growing X alternative.
The idea behind Openvibe is to bring the decentralized open social networks into a single combined timeline. For the general user trying to maintain a healthy online presence without succumbing to the pressures and protocols of the different platforms, Openvibe offers a simple, no-fuss solution.
The app is available on Android and iOS for free. Currently, there are no ads or permission requirements. In the future, however, it may include a subscription model to stay afloat in the ultra-competitive space.
