How to unlock and collect Onryo's Gifts

Onryo's Gift altars become accessible after progressing in the main storyline, specifically after confronting at least one of the Yotei Six bosses. Once unlocked, the game introduces the altar via NPC Taro who sets up the altar near the main home base or Ishikari Market. Gifts start appearing on the altar after defeating major story bosses, completing quests, or optional activities.

To collect gifts:

  • Approach the altar in a home base or safe hub such as inns or markets.
  • Interact using the appropriate button (like R2).
  • Claim available offerings, which do not disappear, so collection can be paced.
  • Gifts unlock progressively, usually tied to story milestones.

The altar is conveniently added to the fast travel menu once discovered, allowing quick access anywhere it's found.

How to maximize Onryo's Gifts

Unlocked through story progression

You can’t access gifts right away — they become available after certain main story milestones, like defeating one of the Yotei Six. Gifts accumulate over time and never disappear, so you won’t lose any rewards even if you forget to claim them for a while.

Fast travel helps a lot

Always check the fast-travel menu for the gift altar icon. It shows how many gifts are waiting and lets you teleport directly to them.

Later gifts are worth more

Each gift has a “tier.” The further you progress in the story, the better the materials, charms, and vanity items you’ll receive.

Charms boost your build

Some Onryō gifts contain charms that can improve your combat stats, defensive traits, or special ability effects.

There’s a trophy tied to them

Collecting eight Onryo offerings unlocks a trophy/achievement titled “Gifts for a Ghost” or “Remembrance.”

Onryo's Gifts provide critical support for Atsu’s stealth and combat effectiveness, mixing gameplay benefits with story immersion. By visiting altars, collecting offerings, and equipping charms, players can shape Atsu’s abilities strategically while enjoying ongoing narrative moments through NPC interactions. Familiarity with altar locations and gift tiers ensures no rewards are missed, continuously strengthening Atsu’s raid against the Oni.
