OnePlus will unveil the new OnePlus 6T on October 29 and begin sales in select markets in early November, but details of the phone’s successor, OnePlus 7, are already shaping up.
Speaking at the 4G/5G summit in Hong Kong, Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon said that the American company expects at least two waves of 5G smartphones next year – some in H1 and others in H2 2019. To confirm that one of the devices that will support this next-gen technology will be from OnePlus, the company’s co-founder Carl Pei, at the same event, said that the Chinese vendor will be among the first to release a 5G smartphone come 2019.

Now, Pei didn’t mention a thing regarding the specific device that will come with this technology but considering that OnePlus 7 is expected in H1 2019, there is no doubt this is the device in question. To add more weight to this, Pei says they have already conducted tests at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego and indeed, according to some images shared on Weibo through the company’s official account, tests have already been done on 5G calls and data.
We already know about a certain Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 variant that will come next year with support for 5G connectivity and now OnePlus has confirmed to be working on a 5G phone. Samsung is also expected to pack 5G modems and antennas in one variant of the Galaxy S10.
